Process

How It Works

1

Self-Assessment Statements

Read each competency statement carefully. These are first-person statements describing professional behaviours and capabilities at the CIO level.

2

Score Your Proficiency

Rate yourself on each statement using a 1–5 scale: 1 (Foundational) through 5 (Transformational). Be honest — the value is in accuracy, not optimism.

3

Review Your Dashboard

After completing all 10 Knowledge Areas, view your full results dashboard: radar chart, KA-by-KA scores, gap analysis vs. target, and pillar breakdowns.

4

Consult Level Descriptors

Each KA includes behavioural descriptors for all 5 levels. Use these to calibrate your ratings and understand what each level looks like in practice.

5

Follow Your Development Plan

Your results generate a prioritised Development Action Plan — with specific recommendations, resources, timelines, and success indicators for each gap area.

Scoring Framework

The 5-Level Rating Scale

Each statement is rated on a progressive 5-point scale. Levels build upon each other — you should not select a higher level unless you can also evidence the behaviours at all lower levels.

1
Foundational

No awareness or very early exposure. I have not yet applied this in practice.

2
Developing

Basic understanding; limited but growing practical application.

3
Proficient

I apply this competency in my role regularly; some guidance still needed on complex situations.

4
Advanced

I apply this confidently and independently; I coach others and lead in this area.

5
Transformational

I set enterprise direction; I drive innovation and influence industry practice in this area.
